The last time I cut myself badly with a knife, it was about half what you said, and half trying to use the wrong knife to start with. That was several years ago, but the lesson stuck: last night, I needed a paring knife, and this house doesn't have a real one. I accidentally packed one, apparently, and it's now no longer sitting in the box it was accidentally packed in.

I think about 90% of my shit went into storage. Of the other 10%, probably 90% is still in boxes here in the new place/rented room/whatever the hell it is.

Most of my knife accidents were a combination of being tired and in a hurry.

So you don't have to learn this one by hard experience as I did: if you lose your grip on a knife, do not under any circumstances try to catch it. Just let it hit the floor.

It's the first time I've actually heard "Don't try to catch a falling knife" applied to knives themselves!

That pleases me inordinately somehow.

(Sorry you had to learn that the hard way.)
